Numbers 24

Numbers 24

1 When Not of the People (Balaam) saw that it pleased I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) to bless God Prevails (Israel), he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

2 Not of the People (Balaam) lifted up his eyes, and he saw God Prevails (Israel) abiding in his tents according to their tribes, and the spirit of God ('Elohiym) came on him.

3 He took up his parable and said: Not of the People (Balaam) the son of Beor has said, and the man whose eyes are open has said:

4 He has said, which heard the words of God ('Elohiym), which saw the vision of Shaddai, the Almighty (of God), falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

5 How pleasing are your tents, O Heel-Grabber (Jacob), and your tabernacles, O God Prevails (Israel)!

6 They are as the valleys spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) has planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.

7 He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters and his king shall be higher than Blaze (Agag), and his kingdom shall be exalted.

8 God ('Elohiym) brought him forth out of Double Straights (Egypt); he has  the strength of a unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.

9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesses you, and cursed is he that curses you.

10 Devastator's (Balak) anger was kindled against Not of the People (Balaam). Devastator (Balak) struck his hands together in anger and said to Not of the People (Balaam): I called you to curse my enemies, and, here you have altogether blessed them these three times.

11 Flee to your place: I thought to promote you to great honor; but, lo, I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) has kept you back from honor.

12 Not of the People (Balaam) said to Devastator (Balak):  I spoke to your messengers which you sent to me, saying:

13 If Devastator (Balak) would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), to do either good or bad of my own mind; but what I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) says, that will I speak?

14 And now, behold, I go to my people: come, therefore, and I will tell you what these people shall do to your people in the latter days.

15 So he took up his parable and said: Not of the People (Balaam) the son of Beor has said, and the man whose eyes are open has proclaimed:

16 He has spoken, who heard the words of God ('Elohiym) and knew the knowledge of the Most High, who saw the vision of Shaddai, the Almighty (of God), falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not near: there shall come a Star out of Heel-Grabber (Jacob), and a Scepter shall rise out of God Prevails (Israel), and shall smite the corners of To, and destroy all the children of Buttock (Sheth).

18 Red (Edom) shall be a possession, Red (Edom) also shall be a possession for his enemies; and God Prevails (Israel) shall do valiantly.

19 Out of Heel-Grabber (Jacob) shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remains of the city.

20 Then he looked on Licker (Amalek), he took up his parable and said: Licker (Amalek) was the first of the nations, but his latter end shall be that he perish forever.

21 Then he looked on the Smiths (Kenites), and took up his parable, and said: Strong is your dwelling place, and you put your nest in a rock.

22 Nevertheless, the Smiths (Kenites), shall be wasted. A Step (Asshur) shall carry you away captive.

23 Then he took up his parable and said: Alas, who shall live when God ('Elohiym) does this!

24 And ships shall come from the coast of Bruisers (Chittim), and shall afflict A Step (Asshur), and shall afflict The Region Beyond (Eber), and he also shall perish forever.

25 Then Not of the People (Balaam) rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Devastator (Balak) also went his way.

Numbers 23

Numbers 23

1 Not of the People (Balaam) said to Devastator (Balak): Build me here seven altars, and prepare seven oxen and seven rams.

2 So Devastator (Balak) did as Not of the People (Balaam) had spoken; and Devastator (Balak) and Not of the People (Balaam) offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

3 Not of the People (Balaam) said to Devastator (Balak), Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go: perhaps I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) will come to meet me: and whatsoever He shows me I will tell you. And he went to a high place.

4 There, God ('Elohiym) met Not of the People (Balaam). He said to Him: I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

5 Then I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) put a word in Not of the People's (Balaam) mouth, and said: Return to Devastator (Balak), and thus you shall speak.

6 So he returned to Devastator (Balak) who stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Of His Father (Moab).

7 Not of the People's (Balaam) took up his parable, and said: Devastator (Balak) the king of Of His Father (Moab) has brought me from Exalted (Aram), out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse Heel-Grabber (Jacob) for me, and come, defy God Prevails (Israel).

8 How shall I curse, whom God ('Elohiym) has not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) has not defied?

9 For from the top of the rocks, I see him, and from the hills I behold him. The people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

10 Who can count the dust of Heel-Grabber (Jacob), and the number of the fourth part of God Prevails (Israel)? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

11 And Devastator (Balak) said to Not of the People (Balaam): What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and, now, you have blessed them altogether.

12 He answered and said: I have to speak that which I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) has put in my mouth.

13 Devastator (Balak) said to him: Come, with me please to another place, from where you may see them: you shall see but the utmost part of them, and shall not see them all: and curse them for me from there.

14 So he brought him to the field of Watchers (Zophim), to the top of Cleft (Pisgah), and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

15 There he said to Devastator (Balak): Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) yonder.

16 I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) met Not of the People (Balaam), and put a word in his mouth, saying: Go again to Devastator (Balak), and say this.

17 When he came to him, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Of His Father (Moab) with him. And Devastator (Balak) said to him: What has I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) spoken?

18 So he took up his parable, and said: Rise up, Devastator (Balak), and hear; listen to me, you son of Sparrow (Zippor):

19 God ('Elohiym) is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: has He said, and shall He not do it? or has He spoken, and shall He not make it good?

20 I have received commandment to bless. He has blessed. I cannot reverse it.

21 He has not beheld iniquity in Heel-Grabber (Jacob), neither has he seen perverseness in God Prevails (Israel): I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) his God ('Elohiym) is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.

22 God ('Elohiym) brought them out of Double Straights; he has the strength of a unicorn.

23 Surely there is no enchantment against Heel-Grabber (Jacob), neither is there any divination against God Prevails (Israel): according to this time it shall be said of Heel-Grabber (Jacob) and of God Prevails (Israel), What has God ('Elohiym) wrought!

24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain.

25 Devastator (Balak) pleaded with Not of the People (Balaam): Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.

26 But Not of the People (Balaam) answered and said to Devastator (Balak): Did I not tell you, saying: All that I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) speaks, that I must do?

27 Then Devastator (Balak) said to Not of the People (Balaam): Come please, I will bring you to another place; perhaps it will please God ('Elohiym) that you might curse me them from there.

28 So Devastator (Balak) brought Not of the People (Balaam) to the top of Cleft (Peor), that looks toward Desolation (Jeshimon).

29 Not of the People (Balaam) said to Devastator (Balak): Build me here seven altars, and prepare seven bullocks and seven rams.

30 Devastator (Balak) did as Not of the People (Balaam) had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

Numbers 22

Numbers 22

1 The children of God Prevails (Israel) set forward and pitched in the plains of Of His Father (Moab) on this side Descender (Jordan) by Jericho.

2 Devastator (Balak) the son of Sparrow (Zippor) saw all that God Prevails (Israel) had done to The Talkers, Sayers (Amorite).

3 Of His Father (Moab) was terrified of the people, because they were many: and Of His Father (Moab) was distressed because of the children of God Prevails (Israel).

4 Of His Father (Moab) said to the elders of Strife (Midian): Now this company shall lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. Now Devastator (Balak) the son of Sparrow (Zippor) was king of the Of His Father (Moabites) at that time.

5 He sent messengers therefore to Not of the People (Balaam) the son of Burning (Beor) at Soothsayer (Pethor), which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Double Straights (Egypt): behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they are staying on my border:

6 Come now, therefore, I pray you, curse these people for me; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them and that I may drive them out of the land: for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.

7 Then the elders of Of His Father (Moab) and the elders of Strife (Midian) departed with the rewards of divination in their hand, and they came to Not of the People (Balaam), and spoke to him the words of Devastator (Balak).

8 He said to them: Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) shall speak to me. So, the princes of Of His Father (Moab) stayed with Not of the People (Balaam).

9 God ('Elohiym) came to Not of the People (Balaam), and said: Who are men these with you?

10 Not of the People (Balaam) said to God ('Elohiym), Devastator (Balak) the son of Sparrow (Zippor), king of Of His Father (Moab), has sent to me, saying:

11 Behold, there is a people come out of Double Straights (Egypt), who cover the face of the earth: come now, curse them for me; so that I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.

12 God ('Elohiym) said to Not of the People (Balaam): You shall not go with them; You shall not curse the people: for they are blessed.

13 So Not of the People (Balaam) rose up in the morning, and said to the princes of Devastator (Balak): Go back to your land: for I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) refuses to give me leave to go with you.

14 Then the princes of Of His Father (Moab) rose up, and they went to Devastator (Balak), and said: Not of the People (Balaam) refuses to come with us.

15 Then Devastator (Balak) sent yet again princes, more, and more honorable than they.

16 They came to Not of the People (Balaam), and said to him: Devastator (Balak) the son of Sparrow (Zippor) says: Let nothing, I pray you, hinder you from coming to me:

17 For I will promote you to very great honor, and I will do whatever you say to me: come, therefore, please, curse these people for me.

18 But Not of the People (Balaam) answered and said to the servants of Devastator (Balak): If Devastator (Balak) would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) my God, to do less or more.

19 Now, therefore, please, tarry also here this night, that I may know what I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) will say to me more.

20 Then God ('Elohiym) came to Not of the People (Balaam) at night and said to him: If the men come to call you, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say to you, that you shall do.

21 Not of the People (Balaam) rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Of His Father (Moab).

22 But God’s ('Elohiym) anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) stood in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his ass, and his two servants were with him.

23 The ass saw the angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) standing in the way with his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field. Not of the People (Balaam) whipped the ass, to turn her into the way.

24 But the angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.

25 When the ass saw the angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), she thrust herself to the wall, and crushed Not of the People (Balaam)'s foot against the wall: and he whipped her again.

26 Now the angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) went further and stood in a narrow place, there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.

27 When the ass saw the angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), she fell down under Not of the People (Balaam). Not of the People's (Balaam) anger was kindled, and he hit the ass with a staff.

28 Then I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) opened the mouth of the ass, and she said to Not of the People (Balaam): What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?

29 Not of the People (Balaam) said to the ass: Because you have mocked me: I wish there was a sword in mine hand, for now, would I kill you.

30 The ass said to Not of the People (Balaam): Am  I not your ass, upon whom you have ridden ever since I was yours to this day? Have I ever done this to you? and he said: Nay.

31 Then I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) opened the eyes of Not of the People (Balaam), and he saw the angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.

32 The angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) said to him: Why have you beaten your ass these three times? Look, I went out to withstand you because your way is perverse before me.

33 The ass saw me and turned from me these three times. If she had not turned from me, surely I would have had slain you, and saved her alive.

34 Not of the People (Balaam) said to the angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), I have sinned; for I knew not that you stood in the way against me: now therefore, if it displeases you, I will go back.

35 But the angel of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) said to Not of the People (Balaam), Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak to you, that you shall speak. So Not of the People (Balaam) went with the princes of Devastator (Balak).

36 When Devastator (Balak) heard that Not of the People (Balaam) was coming, he went out to meet him at a city of Of His Father (Moab), which is on the border of Rushing Stream (Arnon), which is on the furthest border.

37 Devastator (Balak) said to Not of the People (Balaam): Did I not earnestly send to you to call you? Why didn’t you come to me? am I not able to promote you to honor?

38 Not of the People (Balaam) said to Devastator (Balak): I have come to you: have I now any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.

39 Not of the People (Balaam) went with Devastator (Balak), and they came to City of Streets (Kirjathhuzoth).

40 There Devastator (Balak) offered oxen and sheep and sent for Not of the People (Balaam), and to the princes that were with him.

41 The next day, Devastator (Balak) took Not of the People (Balaam) and brought him up into the high places of Great High Place (Baal), that from there he might see the utmost part of the people.

Numbers 21

Numbers 21

1 When king Wild Ass (Arad) the Humbled One (Canaanite), who dwelt in the south, heard that God Prevails (Israel) came by the way of the spies; he fought against God Prevails (Israel), and took some of them, prisoners.

2 So God Prevails (Israel) vowed a vow to I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) and said: If you will deliver these people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.

3 I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) listened to the voice of God Prevails (Israel), and delivered up the Humbled Ones (Canaanites), and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and they called the name of the place Devotion (Hormah)

4 Then they journeyed from The Mountain (Hor) by the way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Red (Edom): and the soul of the people became very discouraged because of the way.

5 Again, the people spoke against God ('Elohiym), and against Drawn (Moses), Why have you brought us up out of Double Straights (Egypt) to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our souls loathe this light bread.

6 Then I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of God Prevails (Israel) died.

7 Therefore the people came to Drawn (Moses) and said: We have sinned, for we have spoken against I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), and against you; pray to I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), that He take away the serpents from us. So Drawn (Moses) prayed for the people.

8 I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) said to Drawn (Moses): Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole It shall come to pass, that everyone who has been bitten, when he looks on it, shall live.

9 So Drawn (Moses) made a serpent of brass, and put it on a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

10 Then the children of God Prevails (Israel) set forward and pitched in Waterskins (Oboth).

11 And they journeyed from Waterskins (Oboth), and pitched at Ruins of Regions Beyond (Ijeabarim), in the wilderness which is before Of His Father (Moab), toward the sun rising.

12 From there, they removed and pitched in the valley of Willow/ Osier Brook (Zared).

13 They left from there, and pitched on the other side of Rushing Stream (Arnon), which is in the wilderness that comes out of the coasts of The Talkers, Sayers (Amorites): for Rushing Stream (Arnon) is the border of Of His Father (Moab), between Of His Father (Moab) and The Talkers, Sayers (Amorites).

14 This is why it is said in the book of the wars of God Prevails (Israel): What He did in the Red Sea and in the brooks of Rushing Stream (Arnon),

15 And at the stream of the brook that goes down to the dwelling of City (Ar), and lies on the border of Of His Father (Moab).

16 From there, they went to Well (Beer): that is the well that God Prevails (Israel) spoke to Drawn (Moses): Gather the people together, and I will give them water.

17 Then God Prevails (Israel) sang this song: Spring up, O well; sing to it:

18 The princes dug the well, the nobles of the people dug it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. From the wilderness there, they went to Gift of I AM (Mattanah):

19 And from Gift of I AM (Mattanah) to Torrents of God (Nahaliel): and from Torrents of God (Nahaliel) to Great High Place (Bamoth):

20 From Great High Place (Bamoth) in the valley, that is in the country of Of His Father (Moab), to the top of Cleft (Pisgah), which looks toward Desolation (Jeshimon).

21 God Prevails (Israel) sent messengers to Warrior (Sihon) king of The Talkers, Sayers (Amorites), saying:

22 Let me pass through your land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king's high way, until we are past your borders.

23 But Warrior (Sihon) would not permit God Prevails (Israel) to pass through his border: instead, Warrior (Sihon) gathered all his people together, and went out against God Prevails (Israel) into the wilderness: and he came to Trodden Down (Jahaz), and fought against God Prevails (Israel).

24 Then God Prevails (Israel) smote him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land from Rushing Stream (Arnon) to Emptying (Jabbok), even to the children of Tribal (Ammon): for the border of the children of Tribal (Ammon) was strong.

25 So God Prevails (Israel) took all these cities: and God Prevails (Israel) dwelt in all the cities of The Talkers, Sayers (Amorites), in Stronghold (Heshbon), and in all the villages thereof.

26 For Stronghold (Heshbon) was the city of Warrior (Sihon) the king of The Talkers, Sayers (Amorites), who had fought against the former king of Of His Father (Moab), and taken all his land out of his hand, even to Rushing Stream (Arnon).

27 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Stronghold (Heshbon), let the city of Warrior (Sihon) be built and prepared:

28 For there is a fire gone out of Stronghold (Heshbon), a flame from the city of Warrior (Sihon): it has consumed City (Ar) of Of His Father (Moab), and God Prevails (Israel) of the high places of Rushing Stream (Arnon).

29 Woe to you, Of His Father (Moab)! You are undone, O people of Subduer (Chemosh): he has given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity to Warrior (Sihon) king of  The Talkers, Sayers (Amorites).

30 We have shot at them; Stronghold (Heshbon) has perished even to Wasting (Dibon), and we have laid them waste even to Blast (Nophah), which reaches to Water of Rest (Medeba).

31 Thus God Prevails (Israel) dwelt in the land of The Talkers, Sayers (Amorites).

32 Then Drawn (Moses) sent to spy out Helped (Jaazer), and they took the villages thereof, and drove out The Talkers, Sayers (Amorites) that were there.

33 Then they turned and went up by the way of Fruitful (Bashan): and Long-Necked (Og) the king of Fruitful (Bashan) went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Goodly Pasture (Edrei).

34 I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) said to Drawn (Moses), Fear him not: for I have delivered him into your hand, and all his people, and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Warrior (Sihon) king of The Talkers, Sayers (Amorites), which dwelt at Stronghold (Heshbon).

35 So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
