These Are the Words (Deuteronomy) 9

Hear, O God Prevails (Israel): You are to pass over the Descender (Jordan) this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fenced up to heaven,

A people great and tall, the children of the Long-Necks (Anakims), whom you know, and of whom you have heard say: Who can stand before the children of Neck (Anak, one of the giants)!

Understand therefore this day, that I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), your God (‘Elohiym) is He who goes over before you; as a consuming fire He shall destroy them, and He shall bring them down before your face: so, you shall drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), has said to you.

Speak not in your heart, after that I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), your God (‘Elohiym) has cast them out from before you, saying: For my righteousness I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), has brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations, I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), drove them out from before you.

Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, did you go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations, I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), your God (‘Elohiym) drove them out from before you, and that He may perform the word which I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), swore to your fathers, Father of a Multitude (Abraham), Laughter (Isaac), and Heel-Grabber (Jacob).

Understand, therefore, that I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), your God (‘Elohiym) does not give you this good land to possess it for your righteousness; for you are a stiff-necked people.

Remember, and forget not, how you provoked I AM (I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), Yehovah) your God (‘Elohiym) to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that you departed out of the land of Double Straights (Egypt), until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against I AM (the LORD, Yehovah),

Also in Desert (Horeb) ye provoked I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) to wrath so that I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) was angry with you to have destroyed you.

When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) made with you, then I stayed in the mountain forty days and forty nights, I did not eat bread nor drink water:

I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) delivered to me two tables of stone written with the finger of God ('Elohiym); and on them was written according to all the words, which I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) spoke with you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.

And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) gave me the two tables of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

And I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) said to me: Arise, go down quickly from here; for your people which you have brought forth out of Double Straights (Egypt) have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made themselves a molten image.

Furthermore I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) spoke to me, saying: I have seen these people, and, behold, they are a stiff-necked people:

Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.

So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire: and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

I looked, and, indeed, you had sinned against I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) your God (‘Elohiym), and had made yourselves a molten calf: you had turned aside quickly out of the way which I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) had commanded you.

I took the two tablets, cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.

Then I fell down before I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did not eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which you sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), to provoke Him to anger.

For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, with which I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) was prepared to destroy you. But I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) listened to me at that time also.

I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.

I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mountain.

At Burning (Taberah), and at Temptation (Massah), and at Graves of Lust (Kibrothhattaavah), you provoked I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) to wrath.

Likewise, when I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) sent you from Holy (Kadeshbarnea), saying: Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the commandment of I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), your God (‘Elohiym), and you did not believe Him, nor listen to his voice.

You have been rebellious against I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) from the day that I knew you.

Thus I fell down before I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) had said He would destroy you.

I prayed therefore to I AM (the LORD, Yehovah), and said: O I AM LORD God (Yehovah-Elohyim), destroy not Your people and Your inheritance, whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You brought forth out of Double Straights (Egypt) with a mighty hand.

Remember your servants, Father of a Multitude (Abraham), Laughter (Isaac), and Heel-Grabber (Jacob); look not to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:

Lest the land from which You brought us out say: Because I AM (the LORD, Yehovah) was not able to bring them into the land which He promised them, and because He hated them, He has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.

Yet they are Your people and Your inheritance, which You brought out by Your mighty power and by Your stretched out arm.
